Story
On an island of rich and poor, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure related to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline and their “OBX”; the stars quiz each other on the best lines from their popular Netflix series. Filming took place in Charleston, South Carolina; it was originally supposed to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.

After watching all 3 seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I had a lot of fun and entertainment: each episode is full of fast-paced adventures, treasure hunts and villain chases, all in exotic locations and romantic entanglements. So what’s not to like!? Well, I have my reservations too.
And of course, silly nicknames like JJ, Pope, and John B (what does the B stand for?)
The events are all extremely far-fetched and unrealistic: for example, how this group of teenage friends repeatedly escapes directly from the police or armed criminals, often under a hail of bullets but always unscathed; or how they solve perplexing mysteries (like hidden treasures from the ages or the location of the legendary El Dorado) with a flick of the wrist or a mysterious stroke of luck. The young actors are clearly meant to illustrate the importance of true friendship, but their youthful demeanor gradually gets on your nerves, with all the bros and buddies and the inevitable backwards caps. They’re all good-looking, but the acting is just about right, except for Drew Starkey as the troubled Rafe and Rudy Pankow as the scheming, ADHD-ridden JJ.
In reality, this is more of a show for teenagers
, which is hardly on the scale of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. Maybe as a sensible adult I shouldn’t be watching this at all, but sometimes it’s nice to go with the flow and enjoy it without overthinking it. The final scene of season 3 set the stage for the new season, and I bet I can’t resist it.
